How to Volunteer
Based in Melbourne? Volunteer at our national headquarters and help with the day-to-day running of our busy office – contact us for more information.
If Melbourne isn't home, or you'd rather volunteer out of the office, join a Friends of Plan Group – there are groups in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth – or start your own. Groups fundraise for us, from holding film nights to market stalls, and are a fun way to get involved.
Workplace Volunteering
Workplace volunteering offers a range of benefits for your business, from motivating staff through team-building opportunities to reinforcing the culture and values of your organisation. Download our Guide to Business Partnerships, email our Business Partnerships Team or Telephone 13 7526 to find out more.

Volunteering FAQ
Can I volunteer overseas with Plan?
We don't offer overseas volunteering opportunities – we prefer to recruit local volunteers from within the country to develop and sustain local skills and experience. If you're interested in volunteering overseas see the Australian Government's Australian Volunteers for International Development program.
Who can volunteer?
Everyone's welcome, but you must be eligible to work in Australia according to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs guidelines. If you're from overseas you need a visa that allows you to volunteer – find out more at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
All our volunteers must complete a Police Reference Check and sign our Child Protection Policy and Working with Children Code of Conduct.
What skills or experience do I need?
Some volunteer roles may require specific skills but most only require enthusiasm and a positive attitude, and we support all office volunteers with on-the-job training.
When can I volunteer?
Volunteers generally contribute one to two days per week but we can accommodate whatever time you can give; short-term commitments and annual corporate volunteering days are OK too. Volunteers work with us during business hours (8.30am–5.00pm, Monday to Friday), but sometimes work after hours or on weekends when helping with events.

What opportunities are on offer?
Most volunteers help us with administrative tasks but we also have roles where you can use your skills in international development, finance, marketing or communications. Or, you may have a particular skill that may be of great help to us – make sure to join our volunteer register so we can find out more about your skills and experience.
